These requirements are applicable for US Citizens applying for a Papua New Guinea Specialists visa in Washington DC

Please send TDS your current valid and signed passport. It must not expire within 6 months and must have at least one blank visa page. Foreign Embassies cannot issue a visa on a page not labeled as a Visa page. Amendment and Endorsement pages in the back of the passport cannot be used for issuance of a visa.
A visa cannot be stamped on a page even if only one Small Stamp is on the visa page. If you do not have any blank visa pages in your passport, TDS can assist you in applying for additional pages. If your passport expires within 6 months, you must renew your passport and then we will secure your visa with the new passport.

Please send a copy of your round trip airline tickets, or itinerary or e-ticket, or letter of confirmation from a travel agent. The itinerary must show the applicant's name, date of arrival and departure from the country, and flight information. The Embassy does not recommend purchasing your ticket prior to a visa being issued.

A business letter of responsibility is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to:
Embassy of Papua New Guinea, Visa Section, Washington DC
The letter must explain all of the following:
Nature of business to be performed
Name and address of reference to be visited
This letter should request Multiple Entries visa if required
Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds for the visit
The letter should be signed by an officer of the company other than the applicant.

When visas for above are requested, they should be done with a knowledge of an agency in Papua New Guinea. The agency in Papua New Guinea having established where the visit will take place and the purpose of the visit, should formally request for the visa from the Immigration Division, Department of Foreign Affairs, Waigani, PNG. Telex: NE 22377. On the basis of this request from the local authority, approval will then be telexed to the Embassy to issue the visa.

It is also advisable that applications should be accompanied by a copy of their research or program proposal, as well as a copy of the letter to the Immigration Division from a local authority. This is necessary for the Embassy staff to know if approval for visa requests are delayed.

It is important to know that approval for this visa must be obtained in advance by the PNG based sponsor from PNG Immigration Department, before the embassy can issue the visa. Approval may take up to 12 weeks.

A Consultancy/Specialist visa would usually apply when the applicant may be considered to be performing their profession in PNG.

Travel for religious or volunteer work requires approval from the Immigration Department in Port Morsby; your sponsoring organization in PNG must obtain this approval for you (allow up to 4 months).

Passport must have at least six months remaining validity and contain at least one blank visa page for visa to be issued. TDS can assist with obtaining U.S Passports, whether new issue, renewal, or obtaining additional visa pages for a valid passport.
