REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS TO OBTAIN VISA TO ENTER TAIWAN

Tourist Visa

  • Submit your U.S. Passport, must have at least 6 months remaining validity beyond the stay
  • 1 Visa Application Form, fully completed and signed
  • 2 Passport-Type Photographs
  • Completed Cover Page and Credit Card Authorization forms (print from browser)
  • Copy of round-trip airline tickets
  • Letter explaining purpose of trip and plans for the stay in Taiwan
  • If you are NOT a U.S. citizen, also provide
    • A hotel Confirmation
    • A copy of a recent bank statement
    • A photocopy of Green Card, or proof of legal status in USA.

Business Visa

  • Submit your U.S. Passport, must have at least 6 months remaining validity beyond the stay
  • 1 Visa Application Form, fully completed and signed
  • 2 Passport-Type Photographs
  • Completed Cover Page and Credit Card Authorization forms (print from browser)
  • Copy of round trip tickets or itinerary
  • If you are NOT a U.S. citizen, also provide
    • A copy of an invitation from the host company in Taiwan
    • A copy of a recent bank statement
    • A photocopy of Green Card, or proof of legal status in USA.
  • For all business applicants, a business letter of responsibility (sample) is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead and addressed to:

    Taipei Economic Cultural Representative Office (TECRO), Visa Section, Washington DC

    The letter must explain all of the following:
  • Purpose of travel and duties to be performed
  • Name of reference to be visited in Taiwan
  • Guarantee of financial support for the applicant
Processing Instructions

    TDS processes visas at the Washington TECRO office for residents of Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC only. The TECRO have 38 offices in the USA and now processes visas only at the office with jurisdiction for the state in which you reside.  For information on which TECRO office serves your state, please telephone (202)895-1800

    Your application will be hand carried to the Embassy, and is usually approved in 48 business hours. Urgent same business day processing is available at the discretion of the embassy (additional fees apply).

  • TDS Service Fee:
    $45.00 Per Visa for 48 hours issue
    $80.00 Per Visa for same day issue


  • Consular Fee:
    $131.00 per visa (issued in 48 hours)
    $167.00 per visa (issued same day)

  • Include credit card authorization, a check or money order payable to "Travel Document Systems, Inc." for TDS handling fee per visa, plus Embassy Consular Fee per visa, and return Shipping Fee.

Visa Information
  • Visa not required for stay up to 30 days (no extension permitted).
  • Passport must have at least six months remaining validity
  • Traveler must hold confirmed ticket (and valid visa, if applicable) to next destination country.
  • Traveler must have no record of law violation.
  • A Taiwan visitors visa is usually valid for five years from date of issue for multiple entries. Period of stay not to exceed two months each entry.
  • Passport must have at least six months remaining validity (from the date of entry into Taiwan) and contain at least one blank visa page for visa to be issued.
  • Visa
    TDS can assist with obtaining U.S. Passports, whether new issue, renewal, or obtaining additional visa pages for a valid passport.
  • Special requirements exist for U.S. Official and Diplomatic travel.

REGISTER YOUR TRIP:

The U.S. Department of State encourages all American travelers to register with their local Embassy or Consulate when arriving in a foreign country. Registration helps the Embassy to provide important services for American citizens residing or traveling abroad. Some of these services include:
  • Locating individuals in cases of family or personal emergencies,
  • Relaying important travel and safety information about the region,
  • Arranging evacuation transportation in cases of natural disaster or civil unrest,
  • Issuing replacement passports when originals are lost, and
  • A number of other administrative services relating to personal documentation.
Without the information provided through registration, the Embassy is severely hindered in its ability to provide these services. Many of these services involve emergency situations and time constraints, therefore failure to register will almost certainly lead to delays at moments when you can least afford them.
