REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-U.S. CITIZENS TO OBTAIN VISA TO ENTER CHINA

Effective April 01 2008, the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Washington DC will issue a visa to non-US citizens for a single entry and double entries visa only, valid for entry for three months from the date of issue of the visa, for a non-extendable stay of up to 30 days. No Multiple Entries visas will be considered. This information also applies to U.S. Permanent Residents and all other non-U.S. citizens. Applications from those holding student visa status in the U.S. are not accepted. The appplicant must apply in their home country.

Tourist Visa Requirements: (New instructions 4/14/08 in BLUE below)

  • Submit national passport /valid at least 6 months beyond stay
  • 1 Visa Application Form (Q1) - the 2 pages version only
  • 1 Passport-type photograph required
  • Photocopy of Alien Registration Card (Green Card) -or- evidence of legal status in USA (valid visa plus I-94 in passport)
  • Copy of round-trip air tickets, or travel agency/airline itinerary and hotel confirmation required
  • Applicants staying with family in China, rather than staying at a hotel, must provide round-trip air tickets or travel agency/airline itinerary and evidence of kinship:
    • A copy of Birth Certificate -OR-
    • A copy of a Marriage Certificate
  • Applicants staying with friends must provide round-trip air tickets or travel agency/airline itinerary and must fully complete all questions in Section 4 of the application form:
  • Completed Cover Page and Credit Card Authorization forms (print from browser)

  • 1 Passport-type photograph required
  • Photocopy of Alien Registration Card (Green Card) -or- evidence of legal status in USA (valid visa plus I-94 in passport)
  • Copy of round-trip air tickets, or travel agency/airline itinerary and hotel confirmation required
  • Applicants staying with family in China, rather than staying at a hotel, must provide round-trip air tickets or travel agency/airline itinerary and evidence of kinship:
    • A copy of Birth Certificate -OR-
    • A copy of a Marriage Certificate
  • Applicants staying with friends, rather than hotels, must provide round-trip air tickets or travel agency/airline itinerary and must fully complete all questions in Section 4 of the application form:
  • Applicants for a Single Entry visa or a Double Entries visa or Multiple Entries visa require invitation known as a "Visa Notification Form" from the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from China Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission or from any authorized government entity. This invitation should be arranged by your host in China and may be emailed or faxed to you. (eff. 05/16/08)
  • Completed Cover Page and Credit Card Authorization forms (print from browser)
  • A business letter from your firm, addressed to: "Embassy of The Peoples Republic of China, Visa Section, Washington DC", explaining the purpose of the trip, and guaranteeing financial support for the applicant while in the Peoples Republic of China, and return transportation.
  • An invitation from a company or organization in PR China (not Hong Kong).

Employment "Z" Visa Requirements:
  • Submit National passport /valid at least 6 months beyond stay
  • 1 Visa Application Form (Q1)
  • 1 Passport-type photograph required
  • Photocopy of Alien Registration Card (Green Card) -or- evidence of legal status in USA (valid visa plus I-94 in passport)
  • Completed Cover Page and Credit Card Authorization forms (print from browser)
  • A business letter from your firm, addressed to: "Embassy of The Peoples Republic of China, Visa Section, Washington DC", explaining the purpose of the trip, and guaranteeing financial support and return transportation for the applicant while in the Peoples Republic of China
  • An official invitation issued by a Chinese Government Agency -or-
  • a government-authorized company/organization Z visa invitation -or-
  • an Employment License issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry, are required.

The "Z" visa is usually issued valid for entry for three months from the issue date, for a stay of 30 days from the date of entry. It may be extended locally by your employer in China.

  • Send the passport and all requirements detailed above, by registered mail or Federal Express to:

  • Your application, which must be fully and accurately completed, is hand carried to the Consulate of PR China and is usually processed in four to five business days.
  • Rush processing of 24 hours issue (Express) or same-day (rush) is available (additional Embassy fee applies). TDS Service Fee for same-day or 24 hours processing is $90.00.

  • Include credit card authorization, a check or money order payable to "Travel Document Systems, Inc." for TDS handling fee per visa, plus Consular Fee per visa, plus return Shipping Fee.

Visa Information
  • The China tourist or business visa is usually valid for three months from date of issue, for length of stay not to exceed 30 days. Applications for a touristic stay exceeding 30 days are not usually granted. Applications for business stay exceeding 30 days may be considered, but requires a Visa Notification Form (invitation) from a Chinese Government organization or the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs, approving the longer duration of stay.
  • Double entry Tourist visas are not available. If Applications require 24 hours Processing please send to TDS using only Fedex Overnight Service
  • Passport must have at least six months remaining validity and contain at least one blank visa page for visa to be issued.

Multiple Entry Visas:

  • Multiple entry visas are not available.
